HOW TO TAKE CARE OF THE TIP

The tips of STHOR soldering irons are coated with a material which reduces oxidation of the tip. Long-term heating and mechanical damage gradually degrade the protective layer, and the tip quickly oxidises, which results in problems with melting the solder. Instead of melting and holding on to the soldering tip, the tin peels off and falls off. A proven way to take care of the tip is to tin it. When you first heat up the soldering iron, put a little tin on the tip of the soldering iron and remove the excess, e.g. with brass shavings. The resulting layer of tin protects against oxidation. It is good practice to tin the tip of the soldering iron every time after finishing work.

NOTE

Soldering irons supplied directly from the mains socket should have a plug with earthing pin and should be supplied from a socket with earthing connection. If the metal casing of the heater is not earthed, there is a risk of electrocution, which in the best case will result in burns. All Sthor brand soldering irons have a grounded plug, which is connected to the metal housing of the heater.
